Position Summary:
The Center for Radiological Research is seeking a technician to work with scientists studying the health hazards and antimicrobial efficacy of ultraviolet light.
Responsibilities:
This position will primarily focus on ultraviolet radiation dosimetry and spectroscopy efforts. The position will help design, construct, and test optical systems for controlling ultraviolet laser sources. The position will also work with optical simulation software and instrument control software, and the technician should be comfortable with basic programming tasks.
The technician will work independently to conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and prepare reports. This team member will provide updates at regular group meetings and will also have the opportunity to attend and present at relevant conferences. We are an interdisciplinary research group with expertise in physics, biology, radiation, and engineering, and the technician will be expected to work with the team to complete scientific and technical tasks in a timely fashion.
The primary work location will be at the Radiological Research Accelerator Facility at the Columbia University Nevis Laboratories in Irvington, NY. Occasional work at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center may be required.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant.
Requires a bachelor's degree in physics, engineering or related science or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Must have experience in programming (such as MATLAB, python).
Preferred Qualifications:
Laboratory experience in optical system design, simulation, and construction, as well as optical measurement techniques.
Experience with laser systems.
Experience in ultraviolet radiation dosimetry and spectroscopy.
Prior experience with animal handling is not required, but a willingness to receive training is desirable.
