About the role
Company Description:
Living in Synergy®: Advancing Media Literacy and Scholarship for Public Health is a mission-driven initiative focused on improving public health outcomes through critical media engagement and evidence-based scholarship. The organization promotes media literacy as a key tool for understanding health information, combating misinformation, and supporting healthier communities. Role Description:
The Member, Board of Directors role is a remote, volunteer position focused on governance, strategy, and mission advancement. Board members participate in regular virtual board meetings, review organizational plans and budgets, and offer guidance on program priorities related to media literacy and public health. They help develop and refine strategic initiatives, provide oversight on organizational performance, and support fundraising and partnership efforts where appropriate. Board members may serve on committees, contribute to policy development, and act as ambassadors for the organization’s mission in their professional and community networks. This role involves collaborative decision-making and a commitment to ethical, transparent stewardship of the organization.
Qualifications:
Experience or strong interest in public health, media literacy, health communication, or related fields.
Background in governance, nonprofit leadership, strategy, policy, or organizational development.
Ability to interpret reports, budgets, and strategic plans, and to contribute to data-informed decision-making.
Strong communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills for effective work in a remote, team-based setting.
Comfort with virtual collaboration tools and willingness to participate consistently in remote meetings and committees.
Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and ethical practices in community or professional work.
Prior board or advisory experience is helpful but not required; lived experience relevant to public health or media literacy is valued.
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
