- Facilitate effective communication between students, teachers, peers, and staff
- Review lesson plans, textbooks, and materials in advance to ensure accurate interpretation
- Modify interpreting techniques based on the student's communication level and needs
- Assist with Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation and attend IEP meetings
- Support students with:
- Academic understanding
- Vocabulary development
- Social interaction and communication skills
- Maintain accurate conveyance of message content, tone, and intent during interpretation
- Collaborate with teachers and special education teams to support student progress
- Promote an inclusive learning environment for deaf and hard-of-hearing students
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards
- Associate's degree or completion of a sign language interpreter training program
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English
- Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA score ~3.2–3.5 or higher)
- Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing (preferred)
