Duration: initial 12-month contract
Pay: $37-42/hrWe are seeking an experienced Electrical/Power Systems Engineer to support the onboarding of renewable generation and battery energy storage facilities into utility operations and NERC compliance programs. This role will lead the technical review, validation, and acceptance of engineering and NERC compliance evidence before and after Commercial Operation Date (COD).
Responsibilities: Lead technical review of engineering and NERC compliance documentation for renewable generation and battery energy storage facilities. Review PSSE, PSLF, and PSCAD power system models and verify consistency with equipment data, electrical drawings, field settings, commissioning results, and as-built configurations. Interpret one-line/three-line diagrams, transmission and substation drawings, equipment specifications, transformer parameters, cable/impedance data, and other electrical documentation. Review NERC MOD-related testing and model verification, including plant controller, inverter, protection/relay settings, short-circuit, reactive capability, and ride-through studies. Identify discrepancies between models, drawings, equipment, settings, studies, and test results and coordinate resolution with Engineering, Operations, OEMs, consultants, Transmission Owners, ISO/RTOs, and NERC Compliance teams. Track technical requirements and deliverables through pre-synchronization, COD, and post-COD closeout. Support technical evaluations related to applicable NERC BAL, EOP, FAC, MOD, PRC, and VAR requirements. Develop automation and reporting solutions using Python, Power Automate, and Power BI to improve evidence tracking, validation, reconciliation, and project visibility. Utilize Maximo and develop repeatable engineering processes to improve onboarding consistency across the renewable fleet. Apply engineering judgment to determine whether technical evidence is complete, accurate, and sufficient for onboarding requirements.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.3+ years of experience in electrical engineering, power systems, renewable generation, utility operations, or a related field. Strong understanding of power system engineering, electrical equipment, protection and controls, and utility-scale generation. Experience reviewing electrical drawings, equipment specifications, power system studies, commissioning documentation, and test results. Experience with power system modeling tools such as PSSE, PSLF, and/or PSCAD.Knowledge of NERC standards and compliance requirements, particularly MOD-related modeling, testing, and model verification. Experience with renewable generation, inverter-based resources, and/or battery energy storage systems preferred. Proficiency with Python, Power Automate, Power BI, or similar tools for automation, data analysis, and reporting preferred. Strong analytical, documentation, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills. Ability to independently evaluate technical information, identify discrepancies, and drive resolution with internal and external stakeholders.
