About the role

The Director of Real Estate Accounting will serve as a key accounting leader responsible for overseeing accounting activities related to the company's real estate investment portfolio, including lease and loan investments. This position requires a strong operational accounting leader with experience in real estate or investment accounting, lease accounting, loan accounting, and public company reporting. The Director will lead and develop a team of three while driving process improvements, strengthening internal controls, and enhancing the scalability and effectiveness of the accounting function.
Responsibilities: Oversee accounting for real estate lease and loan portfolios, including ASC 842, lease modifications, revenue recognition, loan activity, and interest income. Manage the CECL model, including methodology, assumptions, controls, and quarterly reporting. Support financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, quarterly analytics, and non-GAAP performance metrics. Partner with Technical Accounting on complex leases, financing structures, and investment transactions. Drive process improvements, automation, and reporting enhancements while maintaining a strong SOX control environment. Oversee accounts receivable, cash collections, and related reporting. Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals.
Qualifications: Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and accounting systems. Experience implementing process improvements, reporting automation, or accounting system enhancements. Knowledge of SOX compliance, internal controls, and public company accounting/reporting requirements. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop accounting professionals in a deadline-driven environment. Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to present complex accounting matters to executive leadership, auditors, and business partners.
