*Tax Manager/Director Contract Position - NYC Based UHNW Family Office*I am recruiting for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Tax Manager/Director for a Single-Family Office based in New York city. In this dedicated role, you will lead comprehensive tax compliance, reporting, and multi-jurisdictional planning for a high-net-worth family. The footprint spans an international network of equity investments concentrated across the United States (including New York State), the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Latvia and France. The ideal candidate possesses expertise in pass-through entities (k-1s), a strong working knowledge of international/foreign tax compliance and specific experience managing Controlled Foreign Corporations. You will act as a key advisor, ensuring regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. You will be the intermediary between the family office and outside tax consultants, both legal and CPA advisors. In addition to technical tax leadership, this role provides operational oversight of the family's day-to-day financial activity for personal expenses of the family, personal transaction bookkeeping prepared by an internal clerk.
Key responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Reporting: Manage and review the preparation of complex federal, New York state, for the principal and closely held partnerships. Coordinate with external accounting firms, legal counsel, to ensure timely and accurate tax filings. Direct external CPA firms to ensure precise tax filings.
Notice Resolution & Audit Support: Serve as the primary internal point of contact for all regulatory tax correspondence. Actively manage the receipt, evaluation, and resolution of assessment letters, notices, and audit requests from Federal (IRS) and New York State authorities. Conduct deep forensic account reconciliations and extract supporting financial information to systematically dispute or resolve tax assessments. Draft formal response letters and manage files, coordinating with external legal or accounting advisors when escalated representations are necessary.
Financial Operations & Clerk Oversight: Supervise the family office accounting clerk, providing guidance on day-to-day transaction coding, general ledger maintenance, and banking reconciliations. Review all routine financial transactions prepared by the clerk, ensuring accurate allocation of day-to-day family expenses, and personal accounts. Oversee the treasury function, including bill-pay approvals, and intercompany funding movements.
International & CFC Tax Management: Monitor, analyze, and manage along with Deloitte, the US tax implications of the family's global offshore holdings, specifically focusing on Controlled Foreign Corporations (CFCs), Subpart F income, and Net CFC Tested Income (NCTI) / GILTI compliance. Manage Foreign Tax Credits (FTCs) and cross-border withholding tax rules, leveraging Income tax treaties with other jurisdictions. Oversee compliance with the OECD Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and FATCA requirements for structures touching the UK and UAE.Tax Planning & Strategy Research and implement proactive tax planning strategies to mitigate US tax and global tax risks. Evaluate the tax exposure of new global investments, assessing entity classification elections when the need arises Liaison with external professionals to align tax strategies.
Qualifications: -Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.-Certified Public Accountant (CPA)-Experience in a family office experience,-Familiarity with US international tax forms, complex pass-through partnership taxation, and tracking of tax basis from multi-tiered K-1 structures.-Practical experience navigating tax concepts specific to New York State, the US-France tax treaty, US-UK tax treaty, and US-Latvia tax treaty.-Experience with tax preparation software (e.g., Pro system fx Tax) QuickBooks is a plus
