How you make a difference The Psychiatrist provides a full spectrum of mental health care to inmates, including evaluation, treatment, and medication management. They coordinate care with onsite medical staff and ensure compliance with documentation and clinical protocols. The role includes overseeing psychiatric nurses, supporting transfers, and assisting with civil commitments when necessary. Psychiatrists also participate in medical review committees and deliver consultations to facility staff. Services must be provided in alignment with correctional regulations and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, treatment, and medication management for inmate patients
  • Maintain medical documentation and consent forms in alignment with protocols
  • Oversee and collaborate with mental health staff, including nurses and care teams
  • Participate in care coordination, emergency transfers, and review committees
  • Ensure compliance with facility regulations and maintain HIPAA standards
