About the role

Job Description: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Assistant supports qualified mechanics with inspections, preventive maintenance, parts preparation, and supervised repairs to LEG construction equipment and fleet assets. Assist with oil and filter changes, lubrication, fluid checks, cleaning, and scheduled service under mechanic direction. Prepare tools, parts, equipment information, and work areas for planned repairs. Assist with inspections of hoses, tires, tracks, lights, batteries, guards, and other components and report observed defects. Support removal, replacement, and testing of components within assigned training and supervision. Help maintain parts inventories and record equipment hours, service performed, and follow-up needs. Maintain orderly tools, shop areas, service vehicles, and used-fluid handling areas. Follow lockout/tagout and equipment-support instructions; never operate or repair equipment beyond authorization. Communicate questions, unsafe conditions, missing parts, and damaged equipment promptly.
