Patient companions volunteers can expect: Interactions with hospice patients who have a variety of life stories and experiences To make home-based patient visits - wherever the patients call home (traditional houses and long term care facilities) To be called upon for up to 4 hours a week of service Opportunities to practice empathy and compassionate listening A fascinating education about end-of-life issues and goals To provide practical and emotional support to families and hospice patients To gain new friendships and connections To develop knowledge and understanding that improves their own relationships and lives Interested applicants should contact The Elizabeth Hospice Volunteer Department for an invitation to attend our free, no-obligation 1-hour video/phone Volunteer Orientation session. Contact Claytie Mason (760-705-6736, volunteer@ehospice.org) for more information or to reserve a space in our Volunteer Orientation.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
