Note: This is a temporary appointment for three (3) months, with the possibility of extension.
Note: First consideration may be given to applications received by October 5, 2026. Summary of Duties The Law Clerk is assigned to the chambers of Associate Justice Lisa M. Ginoza of the Hawaii Supreme Court and provides legal research, analysis, and case-preparation support to the Associate Justice. The incumbent conducts research on routine and complex legal issues; analyzes constitutional provisions, statutes, case law, and other legal authorities; identifies relevant precedents; and prepares concise legal memoranda summarizing research findings. The position also reviews briefs and draft opinions for the accuracy and applicability of legal citations and quotations, studies case records and transcripts in preparation for hearings, and attends oral arguments to support the Associate Justice's consideration and resolution of cases. Overall, the position requires strong legal research, analytical, writing, and critical-thinking skills to assist the Court in addressing legal issues and ensuring the accuracy and soundness of its decisions.
Minimum Qualification Requirements: Education Requirement: Graduation from a school of law recognized by the American Bar Association with a Juris Doctor degree. Required Documents: Applicants are required to submit a resume, transcript, cover letter, one (1) writing sample, and one (1) letter of recommendation as part of the application process. Applications submitted without the required documents may be considered incomplete and may not be further evaluated.
Desirable Qualifications: Prior professional experience as an attorney or law clerk for a state appellate court. Experience with a law review or law journal. Excellent legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
