About the role
Othon, Inc. is currently seeking a Bridge Design Engineer for immediate employment at the Houston, TX location. We are looking for a self-motivated, aggressively enterprising individual wanting to expand their career opportunities within a growing consulting engineering firm. The qualified applicant will be a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas with experience in structural engineering as applied to highway bridges and other related highway structures. The applicant will perform the following tasks: provide detailed design calculations in support of signed and sealed plan sheets; provide preliminary layouts, specifications, bill of quantities and final plan sheets; prepare written bridge type selection reports; review the work of other engineers; train and mentor less experienced engineers; supervise and review the work of CAD drafting technicians; work closely with other disciplines within the company. The Bridge Design Engineer will report to and be under the supervision of the Structures Business Group Leader.
Qualifications Minimum requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures preferred) from an ABET accredited institution.
Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Texas.
10+ years of experience in the design of highway bridges.
Experience with Texas Department of Transportation design and plan development.
Working knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
Working knowledge of MicroStation drafting software.
Working knowledge of TxDOT design software such as BGS (Bridge Geometry System) and PGSUPER.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Requirements A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (emphasis on structures) from an ABET accredited institution.
Experience with OpenBridge Modeler and/or OpenBridge Designer.
Ability to attain reciprocity in other states for professional licensing.
Working knowledge of VBent substructure design software.
Working knowledge of GEOPAK.
