Senior I&C Engineer - Nuclear experience REQUIRED
Locations:
Knoxville TN, Lenexa KS, Houston TX, Chicago IL, Reston VA, Idaho Falls ID or remote. (*Remote does have light travel associated with it. Week one will be onsite in Knoxville, TX for onboarding/badging and potentially traveling once a quarter to Knoxville, TN or Lenexa KS for key milestone events*)Project Summary Support the design and implementation of instrumentation and control systems for complex nuclear facilities supporting national security and advanced energy initiatives. Engineers will develop and integrate control strategies, instrumentation packages, network architectures, PLC/DCS systems, and safety-related monitoring and protection systems within highly regulated nuclear environments. The successful candidate will work closely with process, electrical, operations, and construction teams to develop design packages, instrument specifications, control narratives, logic diagrams, testing documentation, procurement packages, and commissioning plans. Projects may include advanced reactor technologies, nuclear material processing facilities, and modernization efforts within DOE and commercial nuclear programs. This role provides exposure to projects where system reliability, quality assurance, and nuclear safety are fundamental design requirements. Prepare I&C design deliverables, such as P&IDs, instrument layouts, control philosophy / narratives, communication drawings, logic diagrams, and master IO lists / indexes. Create and review detailed designs for instrument installation / mounting, HMIs, PLC ladder logic, security, hazardous area classifications, etc. Procurement & Vendor Coordination: Develop and review equipment procurement specifications. Support vendor bid evaluations and manage Q&A tracking. Collaboration & Client Interface: Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Interface with clients and support implementation personnel. Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain. There will be flexibility for a PE license. - Not required however highly desired
Experience:
15-20+ years of experience in I&C engineering design for industrial applications or nuclear power plants. Extensive background in commercial nuclear and DOE nuclear design projects is preferred. Technical Expertise: Experienced in preparing and reviewing specifications, procurement documents, and engineering design packages. Knowledgeable in ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and engineering design principles (e.g., GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, interference checks).Familiar with P&ID, PFD, and general arrangement drawings for skid-mounted or permanent equipment packages. Competent in lighting, communications, and security systems design. Soft Skills & Work Ethic: Strong attention to detail with a commitment to producing error-free documentation. Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates initiative in identifying and resolving engineering challenges.
Additional Responsibilities:
Leads integrated engineering processes to meet project milestones.
Conducts constructability reviews and supports conceptual design development.
Ensure compliance with quality assurance standards and timely project delivery.
Willing to travel (less than 20%) for design reviews and site coordination.
