About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for a laboratory scientist to support discovery research programs within Cardiovascular-Renal-Metabolic Diseases. This is a full-time, onsite assignment based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, requiring 40 hours per week. The role focuses on hands-on operation of laboratory automation platforms, mammalian cell culture, cell-based assays, and functional genomics studies. Key responsibilities include designing, executing, and analyzing cell-based experiments to support target validation and discovery research. The successful candidate will operate and monitor established laboratory automation workflows for cell-based and molecular assays, troubleshoot routine issues, and escalate complex problems as needed. Duties also involve performing tissue, cell, and nuclei dissociation, executing next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows for bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and single-nucleus RNA-seq, including library preparation, quality control, quantification, normalization, and sequencing setup. Additional responsibilities include routine molecular biology techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, PCR and qPCR, nucleic acid and protein quantification, Western blotting, and basic sample preparation. Accurate record-keeping of samples, reagents, consumables, and experimental metadata is essential, along with compliance to SOPs, safety requirements, and data integrity standards. Collaboration across cell biology, automation, genomics, and bioinformatics groups is expected. Candidates must have strong hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, cell biology, cell-based assay execution, and NGS workflows. Experience with laboratory automation platforms and exceptional attention to detail are required. A master's degree with at least three years of relevant experience, or a bachelor's degree with seven years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in cell biology, molecular biology, genomics, or a related discipline is necessary. Proficiency in English (spoken and written) is required. Must-Have Skills: cell culture, cell assays, NGS, bulk RNAseq, scRNAseq, automation platforms Nice-to-Have Skills: iPSC, primary kidney cell, kidney organoids, tissue dissociation, cell dissociation, nuclei dissociation, sequencing library preparation, quality control, sequencing setup, sequencer operation, DNA extraction, RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, protein quantification, Western blotting, sample preparation, electronic laboratory notebook, collaboration, attention to detail, troubleshooting, human induced pluripotent stem, iPSC-derived cell assays, kidney organoid culture systemsEOE Statement: Specialist Staffing Group is an equal opportunity employer. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
