The Principal Engineer / Engineer Governmental & Regulatory Affairs, leads and manages communications and official submissions between Nissan and U.S. Federal, State, and local governments, regulators and other organizations and industry stakeholders on safety and technology related topics. Keeps detailed knowledge of current and emerging safety & tech policy and regulatory trends on a 0-5 year timeline, and takes ownership of the collaboration between global regulatory and engineering functions to maintain corporate regulatory forecasts. Leads discussions with internal related functions and stakeholders to develop and support resolutions of any safety compliance related issues. Viewed as subject matter expert within and outside the company.
A Day in the LifeFully prepare and manage the submission of official company documentation in response to official requests for information from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other organizations such as the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Proactively leads the development and submission of responses to Federal and State government inquiries and Nissan public comments to regulatory authorities on related subject matter.
Accomplishes work output with high level of accuracy and performed without appreciable direction
Acts as an external spokesperson for the department to clearly communicate complex cross functional topics within industry technical work groups and committees such as Alliance for Automotive Innovation and Society of Automotive Engineers.
Continuously monitor relevant technical regulatory information from multiple government and industry sources.
Build and foster network of both internal and external technical SMEs and governmental contacts.
Act as liaison between Governmental & Regulatory Affairs team and R&D, Legal, Product Safety, Product Planning, PMO, CMM and other internal stakeholders on safety and regulatory updates and issues.
Coordinate technical meetings between R&D and external agencies as needed.
Acts as a mentor to fellow employees.
Who We're Looking forSubject matter expert level of understanding of automotive safety, technology, product knowledge, and related regulatory and legal processes. Comprehensive understanding of vehicle design, development, production responsibilities and processes. High attention to detail and accuracy in all reporting and communications a must.
A minimum of 5 years of proven enterprise experience in Government Affairs.
Ideal candidate would background 3+ years' experience in a legislative staff or lobbying staff on the federal or state level; familiarity with trade associations and ability to support legislative (relationship) matter.
Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate to external and internal stakeholders at leadership roles.
Bachelor's degree in a related Engineering discipline
Advanced knowledge of word processor, spreadsheet, other PC applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe Acrobat)
