About the role
- Manage and oversee the complete payroll process for salaried, hourly, and grant-funded employees
- Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing in compliance with organizational policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
- Review and approve payroll registers, wage payments, tax filings, and related reports
- Maintain payroll schedules, deadlines, and year-end processing activities
- Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and payroll reporting requirements
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of W-2s, 1099s, payroll tax filings, and other required documentation
- Coordinate payroll audits and serve as a liaison with external auditors
- Monitor regulatory changes and implement necessary payroll process updates
- Maintain payroll systems, employee records, and confidential payroll information
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure accurate employee onboarding, offboarding, status changes, and benefit deductions
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and collaborate with Finance on general ledger postings and reporting
- Support payroll system enhancements, upgrades, testing, and implementation projects
- Respond to employee and manager inquiries regarding payroll, deductions, benefits, and timekeeping
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, adjustments, and corrections
- Develop, document, and maintain payroll procedures and internal controls
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll efficiency, accuracy, compliance, and service delivery
