About the Opportunity: Segall Bryant & Hamill is seeking a Junior Municipal Trader to join its Fixed Income team. SBH manages municipal strategies across the maturity range and credit spectrum through both Separately Managed Accounts and Fund vehicles. This opportunity is designed for an intellectually curious and highly motivated individual who wants to build a long term career in municipal investing. Experience across every aspect of trading, credit research, portfolio analytics, technology, and portfolio management is not required. More important are the ability to learn complex subject matter quickly, a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, and a genuine desire to master the municipal investment discipline. This is not a narrowly defined trading position. As a member of a small and growing team, the successful candidate will gain exposure to nearly every component of the municipal investment process, including trading, credit research, portfolio analytics, investment technology, client reporting, marketing, and strategic initiatives. Artificial Intelligence is a strategic priority for the team and is expected to play an increasingly important role across the municipal market. Candidates should have demonstrated initiative in exploring AI beyond basic conversational use and should be prepared to discuss practical applications they have independently explored in research, analysis, workflow improvement, automation, coding, or problem solving. The successful candidate will help strengthen the team’s capabilities and support the continued growth of the municipal business. General Responsibilities: Trading• Develop proficiency in the trading mechanics of the municipal bond market• Provide timely and efficient fixed income trade execution on behalf of portfolio managers• Coordinate with settlements, operations, and compliance to support accurate order flow following execution, monitor client risk parameters, and maintain effective communication• Prepare and maintain reports related to trading activity, market conditions, and portfolio positioning Portfolio Analytics• Perform portfolio analytics and reporting using Bloomberg, Bond Edge, Advent, Excel, and other investment systems• Analyze portfolio characteristics, performance, risk, and positioning to support portfolio management decisions• Collaborate with sales and marketing to complete recurring and ad hoc portfolio requests Artificial Intelligence and Technology• Identify practical applications of AI across municipal credit research, trading, portfolio analytics, portfolio management, client service, marketing, and operational workflows• Use AI tools, agents, coding, automation, and other technologies to improve the quality, efficiency, and scalability of existing processes• Help convert successful AI experiments into accurate, repeatable, and appropriately controlled workflows• Monitor developments in AI and evaluate their relevance to the municipal investment process Marketing and Client Support• Maintain and update marketing materials in coordination with compliance, sales, and marketing• Prepare quarterly and ad hoc portfolio analyses, graphs, presentations, and client materials• Support the communication of portfolio strategy, positioning, and results through clear and accurate analytical materials Qualifications• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance, economics, mathematics, data science, computer science, or a related discipline• Zero to two years of experience in an analytical, data intensive, investment, or technology oriented environment• Demonstrated ability to learn complex subject matter quickly and apply new knowledge effectively• Strong interest in building a long term career in municipal investing• Demonstrated initiative in applying AI beyond basic conversational use to research, analysis, workflow improvement, automation, coding, or problem solving• Ability to discuss specific AI tools, projects, workflows, automations, or applications independently explored• Exposure to AI agents, coding, or workflow automation is preferred but not required• Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including a willingness to investigate issues thoroughly• Exceptional attention to detail and a proactive commitment to accuracy• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet time sensitive deadlines• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel and Power Point• Interest in developing proficiency with Bloomberg, Bond Edge, Advent, and other financial technology platforms
