City Assessor, Waukesha, WI (pop. 71,158) An award-winning and growing community located west of Milwaukee, Waukesha has experienced considerable residential, commercial and employment growth. The city is consistently named as one of the “Top Workplaces” by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The City seeks an experienced leader to serve as its next City Assessor. This is a complex managerial and administrative position working closely with the City Administrator, Assessor’s Office staff, and other city departments to develop and maintain accurate and timely property value information for tax purposes, and to serve as a focal point linking many aspects of the City’s property-related information systems. The City Assessor must possess strong and proven leadership competencies. The City Assessor is responsible for managing 3 FTE’s including two appraisers, a budget of $575,000 and oversees a contractor responsible for the City’s commercial assessments. The City has an equalized value of $11.5 billion and more than 23,000 parcels. The last revaluation was completed in 2025, with three-year cycles being the City’s typical sequence. The next City Assessor can expect to begin a preliminary land study in advance of a potential 2027 interim-market update revaluation. The Ideal candidates should have: A degr ee in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance or Real Estate. At least seven years of experience in the assessment and appraisal of residential, commercial and industrial property; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. At least three years of supervisory experience. Possession of, or ability to obtain within 90 days after start date, Assessor 3 Certification from the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Ethical and experienced leadership with strong technical and interpersonal skills. A commitment to high professional standards. An inclusive managerial style, as well as clear, concise, and open communication skills. The ability to calmly and empathetically interact with a variety of stakeholders. A competitive salary range, $90,573– $127,010, with a midpoint salary of $109,000 +/- DOQ, and an attractive benefits package will be offered.
