Senior ControllerRequisition Number: 20192 Contract Type: Permanent Location(s): McLean, VA, US Miami, FL, USSenior Accountant Role Description Summary The Senior Controller is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the general ledgers. This includes performance of financial analysis, application of IFRS and local regulations, and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations and with SES's policies and procedures. The Senior Controller has thorough understanding of Brazilian tax regulations, and generally has at least eight years' experience in the role, or a directly similar role at another employer.Primary Responsibilities / Key Result AreasCompleteness and documentation of financial recordsEnsure manual journal entries are properly recorded, with appropriate supporting documentationReconcile balance sheet accounts ensuring high-accuracy financial reportingIdentify, calculate, and record accrued expenses for services rendered but not yet invoicedAs an entity controller, ensure accuracy of the general ledgers, including areas prepared by other departments (e.g. fixed assets transactions, revenue recognition, direct and indirect taxes, income taxes, etc.)Compliance of the financial records with SOX and SES policies and proceduresRespect strict closing deadlines, to allow timely consolidation of SES's resultsEnsure intercompany transactions are properly recorded and reconciledMaintain internal controls over financial reporting to meet SOX requirementsFulfilment of regulatory obligations associated with each entityPrepare annual statutory financial statements and any other tax filings or other reporting obligationsEnsure compliance with applicable Accounting Standards and tax regulationsFinancial analysis over Group resultsPrepare monthly review of companies' results, including analysis of variances to prior and budgetOversight over external accounting service providersReview monthly reports from external providers, ensuring accuracy, including correct use of SES's standard chart of accounts and cost centresMaintain reconciliation between IFRS consolidation ledger and local ledger (in SAP), as well as between local ledger (in SAP) and local ledger (in external provider's system)CompetenciesUp to date knowledge of tax regulations in BrazilExcellent analytical skills and detail-focusedThorough understanding of Accounting Standards (IFRS)Continuous improvement mindsetAbility to plan own time carefully and to prioritise with limited supervisionAbility to communicate clearly and effectively in an international business environmentQualifications & ExperienceBrazilian chartered accountant (Contador) with active CRC licencePrevious experience with direct and indirect tax calculations in BrazilProficiency in SAP preferredPrevious experience working in a SOX-compliant environment preferredMore than eight years operational experience in a similar role, preferably in an international organisationOther Key Requirements / CommentsFluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish, both oral and written The salary range for this full-time position is $90,000 - $138,300. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and geographic location. Individual compensation within the range is determined based on work location and a variety of factors, including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, and relevant education or training. Additional compensation and benefits may apply depending on the location and terms of employment.
