High School Special Education Teacher – Social Studies & Science
Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract: 6 Months
Schedule: Full-Time, Part-Time, or Substitute Opportunities Available
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated High School Special Education Teacher for a 6-month contract opportunity in Chicago, Illinois. This role will support high school students with Autism and other special education needs, with a primary focus on Social Studies and some Science instruction. The ideal candidate will have experience working with students with disabilities, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to provide differentiated and individualized instruction.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide special education instruction to high school students with Autism and related learning needs.
Teach Social Studies as the primary subject area, with some Science instruction.
Develop and deliver differentiated lesson plans based on students' academic and developmental needs.
Support students with IEPs (Individualized Education Programs) and implement appropriate accommodations and modifications.
Monitor student academic and behavioral progress and maintain accurate documentation.
Collaborate with general education teachers, special education staff, school administrators, related service providers, and families.
Adapt instructional strategies and classroom activities to meet individual learning needs.
Create a positive, structured, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment.
Support students' academic, social, behavioral, and overall educational development.
Follow school district policies and applicable Illinois special education requirements.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
Valid Illinois teaching license/credential, such as an Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with the appropriate Special Education endorsement.
Must meet applicable Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) requirements.
Experience working with high school students with Autism or other special education needs.
Experience teaching Social Studies; experience with Science instruction is preferred.
Knowledge of IEPs, differentiated instruction, accommodations, and special education best practices.
Strong classroom management, communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively with students with diverse academic, behavioral, and developmental needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience as a High School Special Education Teacher.
Experience supporting students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).Experience working within a school district or high school setting.
Previous Illinois special education teaching experience.
Experience teaching Social Studies and/or Science to students with disabilities.
