About the role
Combustion Simulation Engineer Prometheus Applied Technologies · Fort Collins, Colorado · Full-time
About us:
Prometheus Applied Technologies develops combustion solutions for spark-ignited engines running natural gas, biogas, hydrogen, methanol, and other lower-carbon fuels. Our work covers prechamber ignition, mixture preparation, adaptive spark control, and the CFD and test methods behind them. We support power generation, heavy-duty on/off road, gas compression, marine, and related engine programs from Fort Collins, Colorado.
The role:
We are hiring a junior engineer who wants to build a career as a combustion simulation specialist. You will learn our development method by doing the work: geometry preparation, mesh, boundary conditions, combustion and flow simulation, and comparison to engine and optical data. This is a mentored role, not a solo CFD posting.
What you will do:
Build and run CFD cases for in-cylinder flow, mixing, and combustion under guidance Prepare geometry and meshes from CAD; document assumptions and setups so others can repeat the work Compare simulation results with engine test data, optical measurements, and prior Prometheus cases Support design iterations on prechamber, intake-flow, and injector-related hardware Write clear notes, plots, and short technical summaries for the engineering team Learn our standards for simulation, validation, and customer deliverables
What we are looking for:
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field (recent graduate or early career)Coursework in thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer Exposure to CFD (ANSYS Fluent, CONVERGE, STAR-CCM+, OpenFOAM, or similar)—course projects count Comfort with CAD and engineering drawings Careful documentation and a willingness to follow an established method Ability to work on-site in Fort Collins and take direction from senior engineers Helpful, not required Engine lab, dyno, or data-acquisition experience Combustion, internal combustion engines, or reacting-flow coursework Python or MATLAB for post-processingFEA exposure
How to apply:
Send a résumé, GPA, and a short note on one simulation or fluids project you completed (what you modeled and how you checked it).Prometheus Applied Technologies Fort Collins, Colorado
Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
