About the role

Registered Nurse (RN) - Intellectual And Developmental Disabilities This RN role provides comprehensive health care for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities across inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings. The role emphasizes health promotion, preventive care, behavior support, and coordination with families, guardians, and support services to promote independence and safety.
Responsibilities: Assess medical, behavioral, and psychosocial needs; develop individualized care plans with input from guardians and caregivers. Monitor vital signs, medications, and chronic conditions; identify changes requiring medical attention. Provide education on health maintenance, medication administration, and safety strategies for caregivers and individuals. Coordinate with physicians, behavior specialists, therapists, and social services to support integrated care. Document care plans, progress, and transitions in the electronic health record. Support care transitions to community-based services and ensure continuity of care. Advocate for patient rights and preferences; ensure accommodations and accessibility needs are met.
Qualifications
Education: BSN preferred; ADN accepted with relevant clinical experience.
Licensure: Current RN license in the United States.
Certifications
Basic Life Support (BLS):
  • Optional: Behavior support, wound care, or geriatric certifications
  • Experience or Skills: Experience caring for individuals with developmental disabilities and collaborating with families and caregivers; strong communication and advocacy skills.
  • Experience 2+ years of nursing experience in developmental disabilities, community health, or related settings.
  • Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and guardians.
  • Experience documenting complex care plans in EHRs.
Preferred:
  • Certification in IDD nursing or related behavioral health expertise
  • Experience with care coordination and community-based services
  • Work Environment
Environment includes clinics, group homes, and community settings with interprofessional teams. Roles involve collaborating with families, caregivers, and support staff; documentation and scheduling considerations vary by setting.
