A Brief Summary of PositionThis paid, hourly position is designed for a senior-level Environmental Health and Safety or Safety Sciences student completing the final semester of an undergraduate program. The EHS Intern will embed with a Valmont manufacturing team and support EHS programs and continuous improvement initiatives. Under the guidance of assigned site leadership, the intern will engage with production employees and cross-functional partners to identify hazards, strengthen compliance, and reduce risk.
Essential Functions:
Support site and enterprise EHS programs through inspections, audits, hazard assessments, job safety analyses, incident investigations, corrective actions, and environmental compliance activities.
Partner with EHS and operations teams in manufacturing areas to engage employees, identify risks, improve safety performance, and promote continuous improvement.
Utilizes EHS management systems to track and analyze incidents, near misses, inspections, corrective actions, and compliance requirements.
Participate in safety initiatives including machine safety, lockout/tagout, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, and contractor safety.
Assist with employee training, toolbox talks, safety communications, engagement activities, and lessons-learned sharing.
Complete a semester-long EHS improvement project and present recommendations to site leadership.
Gain hands-on manufacturing experience through structured onboarding, coaching, and collaboration with site EHS professionals while adhering to company values, safety standards, confidentiality requirements, and PPE expectations.
What We’re Looking For:
Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Safety Sciences, EHS, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related field, with graduation expected at the end of the internship.
GPA of 3.0+.
Available to work onsite and support manufacturing operations.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills, with attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
Ability to work independently and across all levels of an organization.
PreferredRelevant EHS coursework or experience, hands-on work experience, and certifications/training such as OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR/AED, or familiarity with EHS management systems and continuous improvement practices.
