About the role

Why serve as a HOSTS mentor? An hour of your week provides the one-to-one attention that helps 3rd or 4th-grade students succeed with reading. Mentors work one-to-one with two students for 30 minutes each, using easy-to-follow materials prepared by the HOSTS staff that target specific reading skills. The only qualification needed is the desire to help a studentThe HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) program operates in all 11 elementary schools in the MSD of Wayne Township. Volunteers are needed at all of our schools. The HOSTS program just celebrated its 20th year of helping students to succeed! Mentors commit to one hour per week and teams of two or more can alternate weeks. Various mentoring times from 8am until 2pm are available to accommodate volunteers' busy schedules. Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
