The organization partners with local governments, tourism agencies, school systems, and military installations such as Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and Marine Corps Air Station New River. Through these partnerships, JOSC focuses on attracting, producing, and supporting high-quality sporting events and activities. Its primary mission is to promote in-bound sports travel and create impactful experiences for participants, visitors, and residents.
Role Description: The Race Operations & Marketing Director (final title TBD) is a full-time, on-site role based in Jacksonville, NC, responsible for leading the planning, execution, and evaluation of race events and related sports activities, in conjunction with the Executive Director. This role oversees race operations logistics, including course planning, permitting, vendor coordination, volunteer management, safety protocols, and event-day execution. The director develops and implements marketing strategies to increase event participation, brand awareness, and community engagement across digital, print, and social media channels. Daily responsibilities include coordinating with local partners and sponsors, managing budgets and timelines, supervising event staff and volunteers, and monitoring registration, communications, and participant experience. The role also involves analyzing event and marketing performance data to improve future races, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and support the overall mission of the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission.
Qualifications: Demonstrated skills in Marketing Management and Marketing to plan and execute comprehensive campaigns for race events and sports tourism initiatives. Ability to conduct Market Research and Market Planning to identify target audiences, optimize event offerings, and support strategic growth. Strong event operations skills, including race logistics, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and on-site coordination. Effective written and verbal communication skills to engage participants, partners, sponsors, and local stakeholders. Proficiency with digital marketing tools, social media platforms, and basic design or content creation software. Proven ability to lead teams, manage volunteers, and work collaboratively with public agencies, schools, and military organizations. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, sports management, business, communications, or a related field; equivalent experience will be considered. Availability to work weekends, early mornings, and evenings as needed for events and race operations. Prior experience in sports tourism, race directing, event management, or nonprofit operations. Able to life at least 25 pounds. Salary range $40,000-$55,000
