About the role
The Plastic Extrusion Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining extrusion equipment used in the manufacturing of insulated and jacketed copper cables. The operator ensures product quality, production efficiency, and compliance with safety and quality standards while meeting customer and production requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Set up and operate plastic extrusion lines for wire and cable manufacturing. Monitor extrusion parameters, including temperature, pressure, line speed, and material flow. Load and handle raw materials such as PVC, PE, XLPE, TPU, and other insulation or jacketing compounds. Perform start-up, changeover, and shutdown procedures safely and efficiently. Measure and verify insulation and jacket thickness according to specifications. Conduct routine quality checks and inspections throughout the production process. Read and interpret production orders, specifications, and work instructions. Identify and correct process deviations to ensure product quality. Complete production reports, process logs, and material usage records. Perform minor troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on extrusion equipment. Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance departments to resolve production issues. Maintain a clean and organized work area following 5S standards. Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications:
Education High School Diploma or GED required. Technical or vocational training in manufacturing or industrial processes preferred. Experience Minimum of 1-3 years of extrusion experience preferred. Experience in wire and cable manufacturing strongly preferred. Knowledge of plastic processing and extrusion equipment.
Knowledge and Skills:
Understanding of extrusion processes and plastic materials. Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and diameter gauges. Ability to read specifications, process sheets, and quality standards. Basic computer skills for production reporting and data entry. Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg) occasionally. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving equipment. Ability to work overtime and rotating shifts as required.
