Role Description: The Transportation Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Melville, NY, responsible for overseeing daily transportation operations to ensure timely and cost-effective movement of freight. This position manages carrier relationships, plans and coordinates fleet activities, and monitors shipment schedules and performance metrics. The role includes resolving transportation issues, collaborating with internal teams and customers to maintain service levels, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and company policies. The Transportation Manager will also optimize routing and capacity, support process improvements, and contribute to safety initiatives and continuous operational efficiency. This role requires hands-on leadership, clear communication, and strong organizational skills in a dynamic logistics environment.
Qualifications: Strong Operations Management and Transportation Management skills, with experience overseeing day-to-day logistics or freight operations. Customer Service and Communication skills to manage client expectations, address issues promptly, and coordinate effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Fleet Management experience, including scheduling, routing, and performance monitoring of vehicles and carriers. Proficiency with transportation or logistics management systems and basic data analysis to track performance and identify improvements. Knowledge of freight, customs, and regulatory compliance practices related to domestic and international transportation. Demonstrated leadership abilities, including team coordination, decision-making, and problem-solving in a fast-paced environment. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail and a focus on safety and quality. Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Prior experience in freight forwarding, transportation, or logistics operations is highly beneficial.
