Lapeer, MI Pay rate: $20.45/hr Temp to hire Shift: 3rd: 10:45pm-7:15am Sun-Thurs. OT possible, both mandatory(advance notice provided) and voluntary Steel toes required. Must be comfortable working in a hot environment. PPE provided: Double ear plugs, safety glasses, and gloves
Responsibilities:
Safely support material flow throughout the Extrusion Department and work across multiple production assignments as needed. Operate a forklift/hilo to collect, transport, and stage process scrap, raw materials, regrind, and finished sheet products. Perform required forklift/hilo inspections and follow all safety requirements, traffic patterns, pedestrian pathways, PPE standards, and equipment procedures. Identify and report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, spills, material handling concerns, and other workplace hazards. Collect process scrap from designated areas, transport material to the shredder, identify acceptable versus contaminated scrap, and operate and monitor shredding equipment. Monitor shredder displays, bins, material flow equipment, and surge bins, and perform required material changes. Weigh, label, record, and move regrind to the appropriate storage or processing area. Monitor resin flow, silo levels, visual indicators, alarms, and equipment conditions to ensure extrusion lines receive the correct material without interruption. Respond to low material levels or interrupted material flow and communicate issues to Operators or Team Leaders before production is affected. Support material routing from railcar and silo systems to extrusion lines as assigned. Handle finished sheet packs by weighing, labeling, banding, securing, and palletizing products using the correct materials and supplies. Complete required inventory transactions using handheld scanners or other designated systems. Move finished sheet packs to the appropriate storage, warehouse, supermarket, or shipping area while maintaining FIFO and proper product, destination, and status separation. Perform special sheet-handling activities, including sheet inversion, when required. Assist with extrusion line startup and shutdown activities as directed. Maintain 5S standards and complete assigned cleaning, inspections, and basic preventive-maintenance activities. Support continuous improvement and problem-solving activities involving safety, material flow, scrap, downtime, and workplace organization. Perform other duties as assigned to support safe, efficient, and reliable production operations.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous manufacturing experience preferred; plastics or extrusion experience is a plus. Willingness and ability to operate a forklift/hilo. Previous experience is preferred but not required; training and qualification will be provided. Ability to work independently, manage routine assignments, and communicate effectively with Operators, Team Leaders, and other team members. Ability to read product labels, inventory information, equipment displays, and visual material-flow indicators. Mechanical and process aptitude with a willingness to learn and perform multiple Production Member assignments. Ability to follow standard work instructions, complete required documentation, and use handheld scanners or inventory systems. Ability to recognize and work safely around pinch points, crush zones, hot surfaces, moving equipment, forklifts, and other manufacturing hazards. Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, reach, twist, push, pull, and work above and below waist level throughout the shift. Ability to frequently climb on and off a forklift/hilo throughout the workday. Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull up to 25 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs., including changing a forklift propane tank when required. Ability to use hands for material handling, applying banding and labels, and operating equipment controls and scanners. Ability to work in a high-noise manufacturing environment while wearing required hearing protection and other PPE.Ability and willingness to work overtime and weekend hours as required by the production schedule.
