About the role

Energy And Climate Program Associate The Vermont Natural Resources Council (VNRC) is seeking an Energy and Climate Program Associate to help shape public understanding of the value of reducing fossil fuel consumption—through efficiency, conservation, renewable investments, and smart land use practices—and to inspire individual, community, program and policy solutions to the challenge. The Energy and Climate Program Associate will coordinate the Vermont Energy and Climate Action Network (VECAN) and will assist VNRC's partner organization, Vermont Conservation Voters, to help elect climate leaders to the Vermont Legislature and statewide offices during election years.
Qualifications include: Commitment to protecting Vermont's environment and promoting fossil-fuel free energy solutions. Attention to detail and proven coordination and collaboration skills. Strong communication skills. Self-motivation and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Social media, event planning, graphic design, media relations, public speaking/presentation experience helpful. VNRC is committed to a process of centering equity, environmental justice, diversity, and inclusion in our work through such values as humility and reciprocity, collaboration and power sharing, and integrity and accountability. Applicants should share a commitment to this effort. Starting salary is commensurate with experience, with total salary and benefits package ranging between $50,000-$58,000. To apply, email a letter of interest, resume and three references to aconnizzo@vnrc.org. Letters should be addressed to Johanna Miller, Energy and Climate Program Director. Applications are due by Monday, August 30.VNRC strongly encourages applications from candidates whose identities have been historically underrepresented in the environmental movement, including people who identify as Black, Indigenous, Hispanic or Latino, Asian or Pacific Islander, or people of color; people from marginalized economic backgrounds; and people living with disabilities. We encourage applications from all qualified individuals without attention to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, national origin, marital status, citizenship, veteran status, or disability. As Vermont's oldest independent environmental advocacy organization, VNRC works from the grassroots to the Legislature to advance policies, programs and practices that strengthen the foundation upon which Vermont's economy thrives — vibrant communities and healthy downtowns, clean and abundant fresh water, working farms and forests, wild places, a healthy population, clean energy, and climate action.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
