Director of Planning
Location: Raleigh, NCAbout the OpportunityA well-established and growing multidisciplinary design and consulting practice is looking to add a Director of Planning to its Raleigh team. This is a senior leadership opportunity for an experienced land planner who can help lead projects, develop client relationships, mentor a team, and contribute to the continued growth of the practice across the region. The role would suit someone with a strong background in land planning, development, entitlements, and site design who is looking to take on greater leadership and business development responsibility.
Responsibilities: Lead and oversee land planning projects from initial concept through approvals and implementation. Work closely with clients, developers, municipalities, consultants, and project stakeholders. Provide strategic planning and development guidance across a variety of projects. Lead project teams and provide mentorship to junior and senior-level staff. Manage project schedules, budgets, deliverables, and client expectations. Develop and maintain strong client relationships and identify new business opportunities. Participate in proposals, presentations, interviews, and other business development initiatives. Collaborate with landscape architects, engineers, architects, and other technical professionals. Help shape and grow the land planning practice within the Raleigh market. Represent the practice at industry events and within the local development community.
Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or a related field.10+ years of relevant professional experience in land planning, development, or a related discipline. Strong understanding of land development, zoning, entitlements, and permitting processes. Proven experience managing projects and working directly with clients. Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor teams. Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills. Established relationships within the Raleigh/Research Triangle development market are highly desirable. AICP, PLA, or other relevant professional designation is a plus.
