About the role
Bus Monitor The job of Bus Monitor is done for the purpose of assisting special education students while they are being transported to and from school; and providing some custodial work in the Transportation area. Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting other personnel to support them in the completion of their work activities, assisting special education students to provide for special needs during transport, safe loading and unloading from buses including both emergency situations and normal transport, assisting with cleaning the bus to maintain buses in safe and sanitary condition, ensuring teachers or aides are present to escort special education students to classrooms to ensure their safe arrival at school, instructing special education students to enforce rules and regulations, monitoring students to prevent distraction to the driver or injury to themselves or other students/passengers, reporting observations and incidents to communicate information to appropriate personnel, and securing students and/or equipment with restraints, tie downs to ensure the safety and welfare of students. Other duties as assigned. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Working environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands; the employee is frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Terms of employment: Salary based on column A $15.15 minimum of the approved Classified Salary schedule as established by the Governing Board. Up to 7 hours per day, 182 days per year. Full benefits as assigned for the position. Must be 21 years of age or older. Clearances: Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance Measles/Mumps/Rubella Immunity/Vaccination Valid I-9 form. Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Director of Transportation, in accordance with Governing Board Policy.
