Role Description: The Civil Estimator is a full-time, on-site role based in Bayport, NY. This position is responsible for preparing detailed cost estimates for civil construction projects, including earthwork, drainage, sewer & water utilities, site improvements, and related scopes. Day-to-day tasks include preparing comprehensive cost estimates, takeoffs, soliciting & analyzing subcontractor & supplier quotes, preparing bid proposals & budgets. The Civil Estimator will collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement staff to clarify project requirements, track changes, and update estimates as designs evolve. This role also involves maintaining estimating databases, documenting assumptions, and supporting pre-construction planning to ensure accurate pricing and competitive bids.
Qualifications: Ability to analyze civil drawings, specifications, and bid documents and perform accurate quantity takeoffs for site, utility, and infrastructure work. Experience preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets, and bid proposals, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software (e.g., Bluebeam, Plan Swift, or similar) and strong skills in Microsoft Excel and other office tools. Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors. Understanding of construction means and methods, civil work sequencing, and general knowledge of local codes and industry standards. Ability to work in the workplace in Bayport, NY, collaborate with project teams, and occasionally visit job sites for validation and data gathering. Relevant experience as a civil estimator or in a related construction role; an associate or bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
