About the role

Our client, a growing, family-owned manufacturer of custom-engineered equipment, is seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join its Engineering team in Charlotte, NC.This is a hands-on mechanical design position for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their work and seeing designs move from Solid Works models and fabrication drawings to equipment being manufactured and assembled in the shop. The Mechanical Designer II will work closely with Project Engineers, Project Management, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and other internal teams. There is no visa sponsorship available for this opportunity.
Key Responsibilities: Develop detailed 3D mechanical equipment designs and models using Solid Works Create detailed fabrication-level drawing packages Design mechanical equipment, weldments, components, and assemblies Utilize top-down and assembly-driven modeling techniques Apply appropriate drafting standards to drawings and technical documentation Design and integrate power transmission components, including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts, and bearings Complete mechanical design calculations as required Make informed design decisions while collaborating with Project Engineers throughout the review process Support Project Managers with technical drawings and project submittal packages Ensure design deliverables meet project specifications, schedules, milestones, and quality requirements Work directly with fabrication, machining, and assembly teams to resolve design and manufacturing questions Collaborate across Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Sales, and Customer Service Manage design responsibilities across multiple projects simultaneously Participate in product and process improvement initiatives Occasionally support field measurements, installation, and troubleshooting Qualifications 2-4+ years of experience in 3D mechanical design and modeling Strong, hands-on Solid Works experience is required 4+ years of experience designing mechanical equipment, weldments, and assemblies Experience with top-down and assembly-driven modeling Strong knowledge of drafting standards and fabrication-level drawings Experience designing equipment or products that are fabricated, machined, and assembled Experience with power transmission equipment, including motors, gearboxes, chain drives, shafts, and bearings Ability to complete mechanical design calculations Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Ability to make design decisions independently while collaborating with engineering and manufacturing teams Associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Experience: Expert-level Solid Works proficiency and/or Solid Works certification AutoCAD and 2D design/detailing experience Knowledge of bending, punching, welding, machining, and other fabrication processes Experience designing industrial machinery or custom-engineered mechanical equipment Experience with material handling systems, conveyors, or bulk storage Experience within the municipal water and wastewater industry Experience with electrical power, instrumentation, or controls Why Join?
