Unemployment Insurance Supervisor (Adjudication) The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) supports Ohioans and their families through the following programs: Cash and Food Assistance, Employment Services and Workforce Development, Unemployment Insurance, Adult Protective Services, and Child Support. Guiding principles include being a leader in customer satisfaction, attracting and retaining talented employees, and continuously improving. The Office of Unemployment Insurance Operations (OUIO) administers Ohio's unemployment insurance program, which provides short-term income to unemployed workers who lose their jobs through no fault of their own. It reduces the hardship felt by families during periods of temporary unemployment and bolsters the local economies by maintaining the purchasing power of the unemployed worker.
What You Will Do:
- Oversee daily staff operations to ensure productivity, efficiency, and strong customer service for unemployed Ohioans
- Train and support staff on complex unemployment claims, including combined wage, federal, military and appeal-related claims
- Work with other supervisors across ODJFS to coordinate operations
- Create and review procedures to ensure they follow all laws and regulations
- Review employee data and reports to ensure the team meets ODJFS and federal performance goals
- Monitor unemployment claim data for quality and workload levels, and correct issues as they arise
- Handle customer disputes and complaints, and clearly explain unemployment laws and rules
- Recommended Skills:
- Experience working with federal and state employment or unemployment programs
- Strong leadership, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage competing priorities and stay calm in a fast-paced environment
Schedule:
Full-time Hours: Standard workdays are Monday through Friday. Hours are between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
Location:
This position will be headquartered in an ODJFS Facility in one of the following cities - Columbus, Akron, or Dayton. Qualifications:
The candidate, at minimum, must have the following: Option 1: 36 months experience or training in interpreting & applying program eligibility &/or liability rules, regulations &/or procedures (e.g., unemployment insurance, workforce development, workers' compensation, human services or income tax law). AND 12 months training or experience in supervisory principles/techniques. Option 2: Completion of undergraduate core program in public or business administration AND 12 months training or experience in supervisory principles/techniques. Option 3: The equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.
