Job Description: Johnson Service Group, a national recruiting firm is currently seeking an Import Team Lead for our customs brokerage client in the Houston, TX area. This will be a full-time position offering a hybrid/remote schedule.
Summary: Our client is an established international logistics organization seeking an experienced Import Team Lead to oversee import operations, lead a team of import professionals, and serve as a senior resource for clients and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of import specialists and support staff. Oversee day-to-day import operations, customs clearance, documentation, and compliance. Ensure adherence to U.S. customs regulations, tariff classifications, and documentation requirements. Oversee freight forwarding activities, including freight movement, quotations, and coordination with overseas agents and vendors. Serve as a senior point of contact for key clients and resolve complex operational issues. Review import documentation and clearance activity for accuracy and compliance. Monitor reporting and identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency. Develop and maintain SOPs and provide ongoing training and knowledge sharing. Support client billing, vendor payments, and other administrative functions as needed.
Qualifications: 5+ years of import, customs brokerage, and/or freight forwarding experience. Previous team leadership or supervisory experience. Strong knowledge of customs regulations, import procedures, tariff classification, and compliance. Experience managing customs clearance and international cargo movement. Strong client service, communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills. Ability to manage high-volume activity and multiple accounts simultaneously. CargoWise experience and Specialist certification required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. High school diploma required; bachelor's degree in logistics, international trade, business, or related field is a plus.
