About the role
Position Responsibilities:
As a Staff Accountant, you will play a critical role in supporting healthcare and government program engagements. Your primary responsibilities will include reviewing provider financial information, performing reimbursement calculations, conducting various audit activities, and evaluating compliance with applicable Medicaid and other government program requirements. You will support all phases of the audit cycle, carefully preparing documentation to support financial findings and applying current accounting, regulatory, and professional standards. Review and analyze Medicaid provider cost reports, financial information, and related documentation for accuracy and compliance. Conduct reimbursement calculations consistent with Medicaid and other government program requirements. Carry out desk reviews and participate in on-site audits as needed. Execute all audit phases, including planning, research, risk assessment, detailed fieldwork, development of findings, and final reporting. Research billing and reimbursement regulations for compliance with Medicaid, federal, and state requirements, as well as other government policies. Interpret and apply applicable federal and state program policies, regulations, and guidance throughout the audit engagement process. Prepare and maintain thorough audit workpapers to document procedures performed, the scope of work, conclusions, and findings. Ensure all documentation aligns with Medicaid and other government program audit requirements, and matches relevant professional (including AICPA) standards. Draft clear written documentation supporting your professional judgments, findings, and recommendations. Accurately gather, organize, and report financial and operational information. Identify and propose opportunities to improve work processes, documentation, and analytical approaches within your role and the broader audit team. Manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities as needed. Preserve the security and confidentiality of protected health information and other sensitive data throughout all audit and reporting activities. Fulfill additional related responsibilities as assigned. Essential Skills, Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related field. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to evaluate financial records for discrepancies, risks, and compliance issues. Ability to interpret and apply statutory, regulatory, and policy requirements with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, notably Excel and Word. Strong organizational skills, capable of managing multiple assignments and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills, able to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to perform independently as well as collaboratively in a team-focused setting. Proven ability to adapt to changing priorities, client requirements, and evolving project demands. Commitment to maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy in all work performed. Ability to travel as required by client and business needs.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Accounting or a related field (preferred).CPA certification or CPA candidate (preferred).Previous internship or professional experience in accounting, auditing, healthcare, reimbursement, or a closely related field is a plus. Experience in healthcare auditing, reviewing provider cost reports, or reimbursement-related financial information is desirable. Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, or other government healthcare program requirements. Knowledge of or experience with audit documentation practices and professional standards, including AICPA standards.
