About the role
Senior Construction Inspector BL Companies is seeking a qualified Senior Construction Inspector to join our growing Construction Engineering & Inspection (CEI) team. This position will support CTDOT highway and bridge projects, state-funded municipal improvements, and select private-sector assignments. The Senior Construction Inspector will be responsible for overseeing field inspection activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents, and serving as a key liaison between the client, contractor, and project team. This position requires the ability to lift and carry materials as needed and to spend significant time working in the field. Candidates should be comfortable with frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical activities associated with fieldwork.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform and/or oversee daily inspection of construction activities to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and applicable standards
- Monitor contractor operations, including subcontractors and utility work, to ensure adherence to project requirements and schedules
- Prepare detailed daily reports, including work activities, labor, equipment, and quantities in accordance with CTDOT recordkeeping procedures
- Verify and document pay quantities and maintain accurate records for project documentation and payment purposes
- Coordinate with Project Engineers, Resident Engineers, clients, and third-party testing firms
- Observe and document material deliveries, sampling, and testing to ensure compliance with specifications
- Identify and report non-conforming work and assist in resolution with the project team
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and project-specific safety requirements
- Attend project meetings and support communication between all project stakeholders
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior inspection staff, as applicable
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 4+ years of construction inspection experience on roadway, bridge, or utility infrastructure projects
- Strong working knowledge of CTDOT specifications, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities in a field environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites daily
