Position: P.E Teacher – Grades 3-6
Job Goal: To instill positive, lasting habits around physical activity, nutrition, and personal health so students maintain an active lifestyle into adulthood. To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women. The successful candidate will provide standards-aligned physical education instruction while incorporating age-appropriate health and wellness concepts, including physical fitness, nutrition, healthy habits, personal wellness, safety, and social-emotional well-being.
Supervision: Reports to the Building Principal.
Education, Work Experience, and Licensure:
Required: Massachusetts DESE licensure in Physical Education, PreK–8.
Preferred:
Massachusetts DESE licensure in Comprehensive Health, PreK-8 or grandfathered licensure in Health Education, Health/Family Consumer Science.
Performance Responsibilities
Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
Strives to implement by instruction and action the District’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
Diagnoses the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking the assistance of school specialists as required.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, District policy, and administrative regulation.
Any other related duties as may be assigned by Administration.
Physical Requirements:
The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.
Environmental Conditions: The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners and cleaning fluids

Job Requirements: At least 5 year(s) of relevant experience preferred.
Bachelor degree preferred.
