About the role

Our client is a renewable energy IPP based in Houston. They develop, build, and operate their own projects, and this role sits specifically on the battery storage side of the business. They keep what they build, so the engineering decisions made here are ones the company lives with for the life of the asset. They’re hiring an Engineering Manager to run the engineering on their grid-scale storage projects from EPC contract through COD. You’d be the main point of contact between the Engineers of Record, the EPC, and the internal team, and the person responsible for making sure every discipline comes together.
What you’ll be doing: Leading design reviews at 30/60/90/IFC and handling RFIs, submittals, and engineering changes Managing EORs and consultants across electrical, civil, structural, and SCADA, and sending work back when it isn’t right Turning utility, ISO, AHJ, and investor requirements into project specs Evaluating batteries, PCS, MV transformers, and switchgear, including bids, datasheets, deviations, and warranty terms Working alongside the PM as the EPC’s technical counterpart and supporting independent engineer reviews Reviewing commissioning plans and acceptance criteria, and taking what you learn in the field back into the next design What they’re looking for A degree in electrical engineering (preferred); PE is a plus 6 to 10 years in utility-scale power or renewables, either on the owner’s side or as a project engineer at an EPC Experience managing outside engineers from design through construction Solid balance-of-plant knowledge: substations, collection systems, interconnection, MV/HV Familiarity with battery storage equipment, including sizing and specifications. Commissioning experience helps. Someone who’s comfortable figuring things out on their own and can explain technical issues clearly to both engineers and leadership Why it’s worth a look The team is small, so you’d own your projects outright rather than a piece of them, and you’d see the commercial and operational side of the business as well as the engineering. The pipeline is growing from one build a year to several, so there’s room to grow with it. Everyone at the company holds equity. Base salary plus a 25% bonus and equity. Based in Houston and in the office most of the week, with about 15% travel.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
