We are looking for a highly hands-on Ecommerce Experience & Growth Designer to own the day-to-day performance, optimization and evolution of our ecommerce websites. This is an execution-focused role for someone who combines strong ecommerce instincts with UX and design sensibility, conversion optimization, SEO, AEO/GEO and emerging AI capabilities. We want a builder and doer: someone who can identify an opportunity, determine the best solution and personally implement much of the work, rather than primarily managing agencies or outside resources. You will manage the ecommerce experience from both a customer experience and a revenue-growth perspective, ensuring the websites are beautiful, intuitive, technically strong, easy to discover and continuously improving.
Key Responsibilities:
UX/UI DesignDesign wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity mockups for new pages, features and site improvements, using Figma or similar tools.
Create and maintain a consistent design system (components, typography, color, spacing and imagery standards) across Makesy and its sub-brand websites.
Design mobile-first experiences that are intuitive, fast and visually polished across all devices.
Apply UX best practices to navigation, search, filtering, product pages and checkout flows to make shopping simple and enjoyable.
Conduct user research, usability testing and customer feedback reviews to validate design decisions before and after launch.
Ensure websites meet accessibility standards (WCAG) and deliver an inclusive experience for all customers.
Translate brand guidelines into compelling digital experiences that balance aesthetics with conversion performance.
Prepare clear design specs and assets for developers, and QA final builds to ensure they match design intent.
Website Experience & Conversion:
Own and optimize the ecommerce website experience from homepage through product discovery, product pages, cart and checkout.
Personally build and optimize landing pages, collections, navigation, merchandising and other ecommerce experiences.
Improve UX, site functionality and customer journeys to increase conversion and reduce friction.
Own conversion rate optimization, including developing, implementing and analyzing A/B tests.
Monitor and improve key metrics including conversion rate, revenue per visitor, AOV, add-to-cart rate and checkout completion.
SEO, AEO & GEOImplement on-site and technical SEO improvements across products, collections, content, internal linking, metadata, schema and site architecture.
Develop and implement AEO/GEO strategies that improve visibility within AI-powered search and discovery platforms such as ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Perplexity.
Structure website and product information so both traditional search engines and AI platforms can understand, surface and recommend our content and products.
AI & Ecommerce Technology:
Identify and implement AI tools that improve ecommerce performance, personalization, merchandising, product discovery, customer experience and internal workflows.
Continuously evaluate new AI and ecommerce technologies and determine which are worth implementing.
Work directly inside the ecommerce platform and related applications to execute improvements.
Manage the ecommerce technology stack and integrations.
Analytics & Collaboration:
Use analytics, heatmaps, customer behavior and ecommerce data to identify opportunities and prioritize improvements.
Partner with Creative, Marketing, Product and Merchandising teams to ensure the website reflects the brand while driving commercial performance.
Manage outside developers or specialized partners when necessary, while retaining internal ownership of strategy and everyday execution.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate sits at the intersection of ecommerce, UX design, conversion, SEO, AI and digital product.
Approximately 5–8+ years of ecommerce, digital product, CRO, UX, SEO or digital growth experience.
Substantial hands-on ecommerce experience rather than primarily managerial experience; able to personally make meaningful website changes and improvements.
Demonstrated experience improving ecommerce conversion and revenue.
Strong visual judgment and an understanding of how design impacts customer behavior and conversion.
Technical as well as strategic understanding of SEO.Knowledge of, or active work with, AEO, GEO and AI-powered search.
High curiosity about AI, with a habit of experimenting with new tools and applications.
Comfort with ecommerce analytics, experimentation and data-driven decision making.
Experience with Shopify or another sophisticated ecommerce platform, including its apps, integrations and broader technology ecosystem.
Ability to work independently and move quickly from idea to implementation.
Proactive, resourceful and highly execution-oriented.
Who This Role Is Not ForThis is not a role for someone whose primary strength is managing agencies, creating strategies for others to execute or overseeing a large ecommerce organization. Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
