Job Description: Job Description Inside Machinist - Shipbuilding & Repair in Hampton Roads, VATidewater Staffing is seeking Inside Machinists to support shipbuilding, ship repair and industrial projects throughout Hampton Roads. We are looking for candidates with experience operating manual and/or CNC machine tools to fabricate, modify and repair precision components. Candidates with machining experience from shipyards, manufacturing, industrial facilities, the military or technical training programs are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities: Set up and operate manual and/or CNC machine tools, including lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders and related machining equipment. Machine, fabricate, modify and repair metal components according to drawings, specifications and work instructions. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches and machining specifications. Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges and other inspection tools. Measure completed work to verify dimensions, tolerances and quality requirements. Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, speeds and feeds based on the material and machining operation. Inspect equipment and identify machining or quality issues during production. Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow established shipyard and industrial safety procedures. Work independently or alongside other skilled trades personnel to support production and repair schedules.
Qualifications: Previous manual machining, CNC machining, machine shop or related mechanical experience preferred. Entry-level candidates with relevant vocational, technical school, apprenticeship or military machining experience may also be considered. Ability to read basic blueprints, drawings and measurements. Familiarity with precision measuring tools preferred. Knowledge of machining tolerances, tooling and metalworking practices appropriate to experience level. Ability to follow written and verbal work instructions. Must be dependable, safety-conscious and able to work in a shipyard or industrial environment. Shipyard experience is preferred but may not be required for all assignments. Physical &
Work Environment: Candidates should be able to stand for extended periods, bend, stoop, reach and safely lift or move materials and tooling as required. Work may take place in machine shops, shipyard facilities or other industrial environments. Access requirements vary by assignment and facility.
