About the role

DevOps Engineer – GitLab / Artifactory Build Infrastructure Contract, with Strong Potential to Convert to Direct Hire 100% Remote (United States) Competitive Compensation, Commensurate with ExperienceABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYOur client is a defense and product development organization supporting mission-critical programs for the Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Energy (DOE). They're standing up their software build and release infrastructure — built around GitLab, JFrog Artifactory, and Docker, and supporting embedded firmware development workflows — and need a hands-on DevOps engineer to help get it running. This is an immediate opening on a contract basis, with a fast path to a direct-hire offer for the right person. The environment is still taking shape, so this role suits someone comfortable bringing structure to an evolving setup rather than stepping into a fully defined one.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Build and support GitLab CI/CD pipelines, and help administer the GitLab instance — users, runners, and project configuration Configure and manage JFrog Artifactory (or a comparable artifact repository) for Python packages, Docker images, and build artifacts Support Docker-based, containerized build environments Write Python and shell automation to support build, test, and artifact workflows Help deploy and maintain the PostgreSQL database behind Artifactory Work with the firmware/embedded engineering team to understand build requirements; exposure to Green Hills Software tools (INTEGRITY RTOS, MULTI IDE) or similar embedded toolchains is a plus, not a requirement Document pipeline configurations, runbooks, and operating procedures as the environment is built outREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSExperience with GitLab CI/CD — writing pipelines and/or administering a GitLab instance Experience with an artifact repository manager (JFrog Artifactory, Nexus, or similar) Working knowledge of Docker and containerized build workflows Python or similar scripting experience for automation Comfortable working with VM-hosted or on-premises infrastructure, not exclusively cloud-native platforms Able to work independently and bring order to a partially-built environmentU.S. CitizenshipPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPostgreSQL deployment or administration experience Experience with, or willingness to learn, Green Hills Software embedded development tools (INTEGRITY, MULTI) or similar embedded/RTOS build environments Background supporting defense, aerospace, or government programs Eligibility for, or possession of, a security clearance Multi-OS GitLab Runner administration (Linux, Windows)
WHY JOIN: Start on a flexible contract basis, help shape how this environment gets built from the ground up, and have a real path to a direct-hire offer if it's a mutual fit — fully remote, from anywhere in the U.S.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
