Position Summary: Seeking a Health Aide to support Preschool–12 students, including students who may be deaf/hard of hearing and/or blind/visually impaired. The Health Aide will work closely with teachers and school staff to support students with instructional activities, behavioral strategies, daily living skills, personal care, and Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working with students who have diverse educational and support needs. ASL skills are preferred for candidates supporting deaf or hard-of-hearing students, and Braille skills are preferred for candidates supporting blind or visually impaired students.
Key Responsibilities: Assist teachers with implementation of instructional objectives, behavioral strategies, and IEP goals. Tutor and support students in academic subjects, daily living skills, social skills, and other classroom activities. Provide individual and group student support under teacher direction. Monitor students while using classroom and adaptive equipment to help maintain a safe environment. Observe, document, and maintain student records in accordance with applicable Federal, State, and agency policies. Assist students with lifting, positioning, mobility, toileting, feeding, hygiene, and other personal-care needs as required. Support students during activities, appointments, and transitions. Transport students to and from activities or appointments when required and authorized. Use assistive technology and augmentative communication equipment as appropriate. Participate in professional development, training sessions, and workshops. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: High School Diploma. Associate's Degree OR completion of 60 college credit units OR valid Paraprofessional Certification. Current Arizona Driver's License. Current CPR/First Aid/BLS certification. Current IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card. Crisis Intervention Training certification or ability to obtain within the required timeframe. Ability to pass required FBI and State background checks. Ability to work onsite in Phoenix and attend an in-person interview. Ability to reach, stoop, bend, lift, and assist students with physical-care needs.
Preferred Skills: American Sign Language (ASL) skills for supporting students/staff who are deaf or hard of hearing. Braille skills for supporting students who are blind or visually impaired. Experience working with children or students with special educational needs. Experience with behavioral support, instructional assistance, or student care. Familiarity with augmentative communication and assistive technology.
Knowledge & Skills: Knowledge of: Instructional methods and learning strategies. Behavior management techniques. Agency/program policies, procedures, and operating practices. Computer programs, software, and office equipment. Skills in: Student monitoring and performance assessment. Augmentative communication. Organization and planning. Time management. Effective communication. Ability to: Communicate information clearly and effectively. Multitask and work with minimal supervision. Operate assistive technology and office equipment. Safely assist students with physical and personal-care needs. Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and families.
