Part Time-Temp Reporter, Axios LocalRemote1 Big Thing: Axios Local is hiring reporters and writers near our existing markets in regions across the U.S. to support our growing network of local newsletters.Why It Matters: We're looking for sharp, fast and curious journalists who can help us deliver smart, essential news and lifestyle coverage that young professionals in our cities care about.Go Deeper: Assignments vary based on market needs, with some opportunities for consistent, ongoing contributions.What You'll Do:Write high-impact local news items in Axios' Smart Brevity style (typically short-form, daily pieces)Jump on timely stories, events and trendsContribute to Axios Local newsletters (we're in 39 cities and counting), plus their websites and social media accounts as needed, often with a daily turnaroundCollaborate with an editor and/or full-time newsletter author(s)Help fill longer coverage gaps occasionally, (e.g. 1-3 months) as neededWhat Success Looks Like:You deliver clean, accurate, engaging copy on deadlineYou surface story ideas that resonate with local readersYou adapt quickly to feedback and sharpen your work over timeWhat We're Looking For:Strong news judgment and clean, concise writingAbility to move quickly and hit deadlinesOmnivorous curiosity and enthusiasm for reporting & writing about numerous subject areas, from sports to business to dining to development to how we get aroundComfort writing in a conversational, reader-first voiceEqually comfortable doing original reporting and smart aggregationExperience with newsletters or audience-focused writingFamiliarity with our Smart Brevity style (or willingness to learn fast)Strong communication skills and experience working in a remote environmentA self-starter: While you may be assigned some stories, you'll be counted on to bring executable ideas forward every dayWho This Is For:Experienced local reporters and journalistsWriters seeking flexible, part-time temporary workFormer newsroom reporters or editors looking to stay engagedStrong independent contributors comfortable with remote workflowsDetails:Part-Time employee roleRemote, U.S.-basedFlexible assignments based on need and availabilityUp to 29 hours per week, depending on assignments and availabilityOnboarding, training, and access to Axios tools providedOpportunity to contribute to a growing national network of Axios Local newslettersStarting salary for this role is in the range of $27/hour - $45/hour and the exact rate will be determined by the location of the candidate.Axios is committed to embracing artificial intelligence as a core part of how we work.
