About the role
- Full-time position
- Four 10-hour shifts per week (days/evenings)
- Mix of inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and hospital-based care
- First assist in the operating room with a broad range of neurosurgical and spine procedures
- Work alongside multiple neurosurgeons with cross-training across the department
- State-of-the-art surgical facilities and advanced technology
- Collaborative, team-based environment with excellent physician support
- Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new neurosurgical patientsEvaluate post-operative patients and provide ongoing follow-up care
- Develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans in collaboration with neurosurgeons
- Order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing
- Assist in the operating room with cranial and spine procedures, including craniotomies, spinal instrumentation, intrathecal baclofen pump placement, microscopic procedures, and other complex surgeries
- Perform wound closure (deep and superficial)
- Conduct daily inpatient rounds, including ICU patientsEvaluate emergency department and inpatient consults
- Assist with discharge planning and discharge summaries
- Manage ventricular/ICP monitoring, lumbar drains, and VP shunt evaluations/reprogramming
- Prescribe medications and perform procedures within scope of practice
- Maintain complete and accurate patient documentation
- Participate in department call rotation
- Maintain current BLS certification
