Location: 100% Remote (Must be based in the United States).
Role Overview: We are looking for a Senior Elixir Developer to join our engineering teams working on high-impact scalable products. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, building, and maintaining distributed, fault-tolerant backend systems with low latency and high concurrency. We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a strong background in functional programming, capable of driving architectural decisions, mentoring teammates, and collaborating with cross-functional global stakeholders. What To Expect In This Role (Responsibilities) Design, build, and scale highly concurrent backend applications and microservices using Elixir and Phoenix. Architect and implement resilient, distributed systems leveraging the BEAM ecosystem and OTP (GenServer, Supervisors, Tasks).Design, build, and integrate RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs. Optimize database queries and schema models using Ecto with PostgreSQL and non-relational databases. Enforce code quality, maintainability, and test coverage through unit testing, integration testing, and rigorous code reviews. Partner with product managers, DevOps engineers, and frontend developers in an agile environment. Participate in high-level architectural discussions, system design, and establishing engineering best practices.
Requirements
Experience: 5+ years of software engineering experience in Backend Development, with at least 3+ years of active experience with Elixir. Deep proficiency in the Elixir ecosystem: Phoenix Framework, Ecto, and OTP.Solid understanding of functional programming concepts and design patterns. Hands-on experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and mapping tools (Ecto).Demonstrated experience designing and integrating APIs (REST, GraphQL).Exposure to microservice architectures, message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ), and caching layers (Redis).
Nice to Have: Experience with Erlang. Familiarity with containerization and orchestration platforms (Docker, Kubernetes).Hands-on experience with cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and CI/CD pipelines. Exposure to Phoenix LiveView. Open-source contributions within the Elixir / BEAM community.
