About the role
Director of Produce & Floral
To own produce and floral department P&L. Responsible for achieving budgeted sales and gross profit, through proper variety, promotional activities, store level merchandising, and department standards. Develops programs that position us to win in the marketplace, gaining market share.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Designs effective plans and promotions to achieve department sales and budgeted gross profit dollars. Manages programs to maximize total yield.
Develops standards that are superior to competition.
Establishes and achieves proper product variety to exceed customer expectations. Develops signature items or programs. These programs or items are unique in our marketing areas.
Establishes and maintains competitive retail prices.
Continually works to lower the cost of goods from vendors.
Establishes effective labor guidelines and develops training programs.
Ensures effective training and development of department and store personnel.
Ensures the department exceeds consumer demand and remains progressive and state-of-the-art.
Works closely to ensure we are achieving desired combined goals and service levels.
Ensures the department meets all local, state, and federal requirements for product handling and food safety.
Develops leadership skills in co-workers and bench for position.
Shared dotted line leadership of field merchandisers.
Leads produce/floral category management team, including their development.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Possess the knowledge and skills generally associated with a Bachelor's Degree plus 7-10 years of progressively increasing experience in the areas of store management, merchandising, purchasing, and produce product knowledge.
DIMENSIONS:
Impacts over $200 million annual produce and floral sales.
Responsible for over $70 million annual gross profit.
Supervises 2 salaried category managers.
Dotted line leadership of field merchandisers.
DIRECTION/RESPONSIBILITY:
Reports to the SVP of Fresh Merchandising and works under general supervision. The role has broad latitude in selecting products, establishing department standards, and developing specific merchandising programs. The department works closely with operations in a consulting/influence capacity in the implementation of training and best practices.
