About the role
Small-agency pace, real infrastructure impact. Rainbow Water is hiring a Design Engineer to help build something that doesn't exist yet here: an in-house CIP program covering pipeline replacements, large wastewater projects, and pump station upgrades. Work includes AutoCAD Civil 3D design, hydraulic modeling, plan check/private development review, and (once staffed) direct coordination with the in-house construction crew the District is ramping up over the next three years.
We're a small, agile agency serving northern San Diego County, and we move fast - three pump stations from bid to built in 10 months. This role is designed to meet you where your experience fits (Assistant, Associate, or journey-level Engineer), with room to grow. What matters most is that you love hands-on design work and want breadth of experience rather than a siloed function.
Rainbow Water is a San Diego Union-Tribune Top Workplace, five years running, serving Rainbow, Bonsall, and parts of Fallbrook, Oceanside, and Vista.

Before you apply
Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.
Your profile is current
It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.
Two examples you can talk through
Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.
A number in mind
What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.
Your notice period
Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.
Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
