Job Summary: Director of EHS will serve as the chief architect of our safety culture and environmental compliance strategy, overseeing all EHS functions across six manufacturing and mining sites. The role leads a core corporate team while providing strategic oversight and technical support to site‑level EHS professionals. ResponsibilitiesStrategic Leadership & Impact : Develop and execute a multi‑year EHS roadmap aligned with corporate goals and industry best practices, including business, production, and organizational priorities. Operational Oversight & Team Leadership : Lead managers and professional staff, allocate resources, and provide indirect mentorship to EHS leads across six production sites. Cross‑Level Communication & Interpersonal Skills : Serve as the primary EHS liaison, persuading managers and leaders to act, and negotiating with external partners, vendors, and customers. Business Acumen & Problem Solving : Apply business knowledge to maximize department performance and solve complex operational issues. Predictive Risk Management & Total Worker Health : Lead incident investigations using Root Cause Analysis, develop leading indicators, and champion holistic worker health initiatives. Environmental Permitting : Direct and oversee all state and federal permitting processes (e.g., TitleV Air, Mining, NPDES Water, land reclamation). Regulatory Oversight : Maintain compliance with MSHA, OSHA, EPA, and relevant state/local requirements, managing evolving regulations and inspections. Industrial Hygiene : Manage the Industrial Hygiene program and supervise staff to monitor and improve IH. Community Engagement : Establish routine engagement with community stakeholders and resolve complaints. Corporate Security : Work with the Global Head of Physical Security to implement security strategy and policies.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. Minimum of 10 years of progressive EHS leadership experience in an industrial environment. Demonstrated experience in Mining (MSHA) and/or Manufacturing (OSHA); preference for candidates with both. Proven track record of managing complex environmental permits and maintaining positive relationships with state and federal agencies. Ability to lead and influence teams across multiple geographic locations. Experience selecting, deploying, and managing enterprise EHS software platforms (e.g., Velocity, Enablon, Intelex) and leveraging predictive safety technologies. Experience developing and maintaining Business Continuity Plans (BCP) and Emergency Action Plans (EAP). Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) preferred.
Benefits: Competitive base salary ranging from $128,000 to $176,000, exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses.
