Job Overview
Title: Reading Design Coach
Reports to: Principal
Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026
Position Type: Full‑Time
Purpose: The Elementary Reading Coach will support and elevate literacy instruction in our elementary schools. The coach will collaborate with teachers, providing expertise, resources, and professional development to ensure the delivery of effective and research‑based literacy instruction. This role involves modeling, feedback, co‑teaching, support for coaching cycles, and curricular development, with a direct emphasis on the science of reading principles. The instructional coach will also support fidelity and alignment of professional learning communities with district expectations.
Qualifications
5+ years proven successful elementary classroom experience
Deep knowledge of research‑based reading, writing, and literacy development, and successful implementation in a classroom environment
Solid interpersonal skills (communication, problem‑solving, conflict management, collaboration) to share instruction approaches with teachers and administrators and provide advice, mentoring, and coaching
Experience delivering effective professional development
Ability to create and conduct customized professional development
Strong organizational skills
Master’s degree preferred
North Carolina ESL K‑12 licensure preferred
Salary range: $41,000 to $55,590 per year
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide personalized, classroom‑based support to implement the Rowan‑Salisbury School System’s Literacy Plan.
Develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and conduct professional research related to reading
Coaching and modeling of best teaching practices through demonstration lessons
Guide teachers to collect and analyze data and develop instructional plans in response to determined student needs
Collaborate with the school’s administration to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results for reading
Plan, develop, implement and lead professional development opportunities and conduct professional research related to reading
Other duties as identified by district administration in support of the Rowan‑Salisbury School System’s Literacy Plan
