About the role

Director, Strategic Finance (FP&A) - Chicago, IL OR Remote (Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones only) We're partnering with a private equity-backed industrial services business on the search for a Director, Strategic Finance (FP&A) to serve as the right hand to its CFO.You'll own core planning and reporting, with heavy focus on pulling operating and financial data together from across the business, finding what actually drives performance, and turning it into decisions. You'll also lead the effort to bring AI into how finance works, with full backing from leadership, IT, and the PE sponsor. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about AI, combining operational and financial information into insight, and looking for a real path to grow.
What you'll be doing:
  • Lead the annual operating plan, forecasts, long-range planning, monthly reporting packages, and weekly cash flow
  • Connect operational data to the financials and build a clear view of what drives margin
  • Put AI tools at the center of financial analysis and reporting, and make them part of how the wider finance team works
  • Build consistent data and decision-making across the acquired businesses
  • Partner closely with the business controllers and operators in the field, bringing them along with the story behind the numbers
  • Prepare executive-level reporting for the Board, the PE sponsor, and lenders
  • Build pro formas and 13-week cash flows, with support from the CFO where needed
  • Work alongside the CFO and Controller on strategic projects, with direct exposure to the sponsor
  • Grow the team as the function scales
What we're looking for:
  • 6-10 years of experience in FP&A or strategic finance
  • Hands-on, current AI fluency and a passion for what it can do High EQ and strong communication skills
  • Comfortable in a lean environment A real passion for data and for combining operational and financial information into insight, not just building Excel models
  • Background in a PE-backed portfolio company is ideal; experience in business services, industrial services, logistics, or a data-heavy or SaaS environment also translates well
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CPA, or CFA a plus
  • Compensation & logistics:
Base salary: up to $200,000, plus a 20% target bonus
Location: Chicago area OR fully remote for candidates in Eastern, Central, or Mountain time zones
Travel: roughly monthly visits to the Chicago-area headquarters for a couple of days, with more in the first few months Reports to the CFO
